Family Stories

These stories were written down by my Grandmother Anne Louise Moore (Knight) (aka Grama) as they were told to her by her mother Anne Minerva Knight (Gill) (aka Granmama) (November 4, 1896 - November 8, 1998)  The stories were written down during the mid 1990's and are all believed to be true and correct.  Additional stories and comments were added by my Grama from conversations with her Aunt Etta (Sis) and Aunt Ludie in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Below is a short introduction by my Grandmother.

Hello, I am Anne (Annie) Louise Knight Moore
My husband I live in North Central Texas, on Lake Granbury, it's on the Brazos River.

My parents dreamed of claiming a homestead in New Mexico.  Their worldly goods were

less than $75, including Daddy's Model T Ford.  They went to the west Texas plains, in

Dickens County, near Spur--to 'make the cotton crop'---in the summer of 1923. I was

born near there, July 15, 1923.

My Great Grandparents all had Texas Fever.
They came in the 1870's from Illinois and Alabama.
They lived thru cholera, civil war, three runaway marriages,
covered wagons, fires, hydrophobia, drowning, murder, fevers,
claustrophobia, deafness, a duel, polio, suicides, whiskey, fires and aids.

My Mother was Anne Minerva Gill Knight, Protagonist.
These old tales are mostly in her words--- the way she heard them.
Please--- help me correct or add to them, or your version of the story.

If you have more information or if you want to send corrections please send them to
[old email address removed] and she will contact you.

Many thanks to each of you for keyboard, editing, deciphering, and stories.
You wouldn't want to wade thru a half page of your names.

Special thanks for the wonderful work of Orville W. Davenport, on his lineage.
He labored long & did a splendid collection--and to his family who shared it with us.

And now it is yours to share.

Next I am getting stories of the Joseph Mote Gill family after 1906.
Their move to the big Hittson Ranch, across the Brazos River.
May I have help from you?
